March 16 - 18, 2007:  Weekend Intermediate Repertoire Workshop for Mountain Dulcimer and Hammered Dulcimer (plus Beginning/Advanced Beginning Penny Whistle Workshop) with Guy George  and Tull Glazener
Level: Intermediate
Tuition: $110

Course Times: Friday 7 - 9 PM; Saturday 9:30 - 11:30 AM & 1:30 - 3:30 PM; Sunday 9:30 - 11:30 AM
Course Description: See and learn Mountain Dulcimer, Hammered Dulcimer and Penny Whistle from two renowned folk musicians. Come for a fun weekend of intermediate mountain dulcimer and hammered dulcimer workshops (and beginning/advanced beginning penny whistle workshops) in repertoire building sessions, conducted by Tull Glazener of Indianapolis, IN, on Mountain Dulcimer, along with Guy George of Cleveland, OH, on Hammered Dulcimer and Penny Whistle. The various workshop sessions will be for Dulcimer and Penny Whistle ensembles. The repertoire will be selected specifically for this weekend and will not have been taught in these sessions before. All the tunes taught will have multiple parts including melody and backup appropriate for different skill levels. The weekend will culminate with combining all the classes to play through the tunes that were learned. There will also be a Saturday evening concert by Tull & Guy followed by a jam.

Tull and Guy have often filled these workshops at larger venues. Get your reservation in early since space will be limited to the first 30 students registered for this special session.

Nearly twenty years ago, Tull Glazener was given his first mountain dulcimer as a Christmas present. He had grown up playing piano, organ, and several brass instruments all through high school and college, but had never seen or heard of a dulcimer before. Because it only has 3 strings, and only half the frets of most stringed instruments, Tull dismissed it as just a toy, and not a "real instrument". So he thanked the gift-giver profusely, put the dulcimer in a closet, and forgot about it.
Several years laterTull happened upon the Central Indiana Folk Music and Mountain Dulcimer Society's annual festival at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, and heard a couple of guest artists performing on the instrument. Tull was amazed at its versatility
and captivated by its sound,  immediately went home and dug his mountain dulcimer out the closet, joined the organization, found a teacher to get him started, and has rarely put it down since.

Guy George, from Cleveland, Ohio, is a rhythmic, melodic hammered dulcimer player with a definite jazz influence to his playing style. Guy comes from a background in jazz and performance on the saxophone, having studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston; honing his skills playing with many jazz influenced musicians in the Boston and New York area. He has settled outside Cleveland, Ohio and presently plays hammered dulcimer, tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, flute, steel drum and keyboard. He tours throughout the United States and Canada performing and recording and teaching workshops on the hammered dulcimer and penny whistle. His most recent recordings are with Maddie MacNeil on her latest CD "As Time Goes By"; David Moran and Joe Morgan on their latest CD "I Wish They Hadn't Done That"; Tull Glazener on his latest CD "Plays Well With Others"; and his own creation "Dream Castle".
